Rice is the seed of a grass plant, the staple food for over half of the world's population, particularly in Asia and Africa. It is a highly cultivated crop with numerous varieties, such as long-grain Indica and short-grain Japonica, grown in warm, wet conditions in flooded fields called paddies.
